2023 OKCPHIL Young Musician Competition Winners

Oklahoma pianists take top honors

For the first time in the history of the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, two Oklahoman pianists took top honors with student and teacher both placing first.

Andrew Vargas, 16, of Mustang, and Jennifer Song, a private music teacher in Oklahoma City, will perform at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall on May 21.

Each year, the competition receives hundreds of applications from pianists all over the world. The directors select performances that reflect depth of interpretation, musicality and technical expertise.

Additionally, Steinway & Sons announced that Vargas was recently added to its prestigious roster of Young Steinway Artists. As MTNA Senior Performance Division Winner and National Finalist for 2017, Vargas has established the groundwork for an impressive career as a concert pianist.
